You might have come across Cogged V-belt pulley or Double-Sided (Hexagonal) V-Belts. If so, you may be wondering which 1 is the best. Luckily, Connect2India has the answers! Read on to find out more! If you’re interested in purchasing an agricultural V-belt, you’ve come to the right place! Listed below are 3 tips for buying the right agricultural V-belt.
Cogged V-Belts
The construction of a cogged agricultural V-belt differs from the traditional style. This style is used for agricultural
equipment, including tractors and other types of farm machinery. This belt type has rubber-impregnated top fabric to resist wear, oil, heat, and static hazards. The belt is also more flexible than its non-cogged counterpart. Here’s an overview of these differences.
The primary difference between a cogged and an open-ended V-belt is the cog type’s notches. The notches are aligned
perpendicularly to the belt’s length, allowing for a much tighter bend. The cogs in a cogged belt make it easier to bend and
resist noise. As a result, cogged agricultural V-belts are more efficient than their standard counterparts.
This construction differs from conventional rubber-impregnated counterparts. Cogged V-belts are made with precision-engineered cogs and can fit into smaller pulleys. Although this results in lower costs, the power output of the cogged belt is not affected. In addition to their compact size, they have specially formulated EPDM rubber compounds and raw-edge sidewalls that provide superior grip power.
The most common type of a Cogged V-belt is designed for light and medium-duty applications. These are available in a variety of materials, including rubber, PVC, and EPDM. Agricultural V-belts are generally made of EPDM or chloroprene rubber. The higher the wedge angle, the less likely it is to slip or lose power.
Double-sided v-belts have a unique design. They can be operated on either side, and the tension cord is located in the center. Double-sided Cogged V-belts are used in applications where belt flexibility is needed. The Cogged V-belts are usually longer than normal, with 2 sets of cogs. They can also be made with a serpentine-like path. The length of the Cogged V-belt depends on manufacturer specifications.
The cogged V-belts are the most popular choice for agriculture applications. The Cogged V-belts are widely regarded as the industry’s performance leader. They use added-strength EPDM compounds, reducing downtime and energy costs. They are also available in different sizings and widths. Agricultural V-belts are available in various colors and textures.
Double-Sided (Hexagonal) V-Belts
Agricultural machinery such as rice mills and husker machines use double V belts. Their hexagonal cross-section and tension cords provide full contact with the machine’s drive mechanism and ensure even load distribution. They have excellent abrasion resistance, durability, and anti-static properties. The nylon top and bottom wrap further enhance the belt’s performance. Hexagonal v-belts are used in agricultural machinery because of their flexibility. The cross-section of a double V-belt is designed to accommodate sudden changes in direction. In these cases, the double V-belts exert unique stresses on the structure of the drive mechanism. PIX double-sided V-belts maintain their alignment in the pulley groove during operation. The PIX Hexagonal
V-Belts are also oil resistant and antistatic.
A standard hexagonal V-belt is available in single-sided or double-sided teeth. Double-sided V-belts feature trapezoidal teeth that provide excellent abrasion and shear resistance. Polychloroprene teeth are also available. This type of V-belt is ideal for applications that involve a high level of vibration. These V-belts are identified by their part numbers, which typically consist of 3 or 4 digits corresponding to the pitch length, width, and length in millimeters.
A traditional hexagonal V-belt is the most common cross-sectional type of agricultural belt. It has a top and bottom side in
parallel alignment. Besides the pitch length, the belt is often classified according to its cross-section. BS3790 and DIN 7753 standards. This type is commonly available in more than 500 different lengths.
